Today I also made this one — a brindle Staffie in my new retro henley t-shirt.
Green with coral sleeves, two little wooden buttons on the front, and the double sport stripe down the arm. I love this one because it actually fits a Staffie properly.
Anyone who has a Staffie knows the problem — you buy a t-shirt in his weight and it fits the length, but it is too tight across the chest. Or you buy for the chest and it hangs like a dress. They are all chest and muscle and big smiles.
So I cut this one with a broad chest, a bit shorter in the body, and with stretch in the neck so you can get it over that big Staffie head without a wrestling match. It's 100% cotton, same as my recovery shirts, so it breathes and is soft on the skin. No scratchy labels, no tight elastic.
The colour was inspired by those old 70s sports shirts — forest green and faded coral. I thought it would look good against brindle, and it does. The buttons are just for show, there is no fiddly placket to undo — it slips on.
I made this one in a medium for a Staffie, but I can make similar from XS for a tiny Staffie pup up to XL for the big boys. It is not a recovery shirt as this one is for 4-legged dogs, it is just a everyday comfy t-shirt for walks, for chilly evenings, or for when they want to look smart on the sofa.
If you have a Staffie who is between sizes, measure around the widest part of the chest and I will make it to that. That is always better than going by weight with this breed.
This one is now listed in my Etsy shop in green and coral.
